Century of Self

This documentary was the first time i ever heard of Edward Bernays. I, as well as most people out there, have heard of his Uncle Sig. Seems to me like Freud gets all the credit in the family while Bernays really led just as impressive of a life. He was the pioneer of public relations. He was the first to play off the desires of America in order to reach commercial success. The various ideas he came up with, from the “freedom torches” to the celebrities he hired to pose with Coolidge, gave me an insight into how the primal human urges. The fact that is was relatively unkown makes me think of Bernays as a “man behind the curtain”. I’ve realized form watching this that people can be pulled in any direction you want. You just have to figure out what makes them tick.
